Daughtry Rockford Metrocentre Review

ROCKFORD METROCENTRE – Last evening turned out to be a sweep in Rockford. The thrashing occurred with very good performances by Cavo and Lifehouse and ended with a kaboom for Daughtry.

The audience encountered everything from a gorilla man to a throwback to the 1980’s, including a laser show.

Daughtry entered the Rockford MetroCentre to “The Batman Theme” from the album Batman (Original Motion Picture Score). Yes, this song was released in 1989 when Michael Keaton played Batman. The moment the curtain tumbled, Daughtry started their performance with “Every Time You Turn Around.”

Daughtry’s Rockford set list was very similar to the Vic Theatre’s back on August 8, 2009. Instead of Daughtry performing “Breakdown,” “Crashed” and “Open Up Your Eyes,” they performed “What I Want,” “Learn My Lesson,” “In the Air Tonight” by Phil Collins and “Rebel Yell” by Billy Idol in Rockford.

I would have rather enjoyed seeing Daughtry veer off the usual highway and perform songs like ‘Call Your Name’ and ‘Sorry’ in Rockford

I realize Daughtry performs popular songs that either the band chooses or by fan recommendation. However, I would have rather enjoyed seeing Daughtry veer off the usual highway and perform songs like “Call Your Name” and “Sorry” in Rockford.

Daughtry guided the audience into a 1980’s time machine by singing cover songs of “In the Air Tonight” and “Rebel Yell.” Nothing against former Heavyweight Champion Mike Tyson’s rendition of “In the Air Tonight” in The Hangover, but Chris Daughtry’s interpretation surpassed Mike’s by a landslide.

As Chris sang “In the Air Tonight,” there was a green laser show. During the song, the green lasers appeared to form a small web.

The laser show continued later in Daughtry’s performance on “You Don’t Belong,” “Rebel Yell” and “There and Back Again.”

I even noticed some rock star etiquette between Cavo and Lifehouse. Not once did Casey Walker or Jason Wade walk down the ramp to the other end of the stage above the floor seated sections. However, Chris Daughtry walked down the ramp singing on numerous occasions.

After the gut wrenching encore, which include the ground shaking, Jason Wade joined Chris Daughtry and sang alongside Chris on “Home.”

Daughtry has released two albums and it is no surprise that they both have reached platinum success. Daughtry’s platinum successes are carried over into their live performances and it’s amazing to watch. If I can just get Daughtry to perform songs like “Call Your Name” and “Sorry” it might be a perfect show. Nevertheless, Daughtry’s performance was still outstanding! Below is the set list for Daughtry at the Rockford MetroCentre in Rockford, Illinois on May 22, 2010.
